Midnight Diner

“When people finish their day and hurry home, my day starts. My diner is open from midnight to seven in the morning. They call it “Midnight Diner”. That’s all I have on my menu. But I make whatever customers request as long as I have the ingredients for it. That’s my policy. Do I even have customers? More than you would expect.”

This is the most wholesome TV series ever. Every night Master opens his Izakaya in Shinjuku, Tokyo, making whatever dishes his customers request. The diner is a very cozy place; a place to stop by if you don’t want to go home after work. All kinds of people show up at the Shinya shokudō with all kinds of stories. The stories are sometimes sad, sometimes happy, sometimes poignant, sometimes silly, sometimes simple, sometimes complicated, but always wholesome. In this small diner nobody hides anything from anyone. They all share their stories with the world without judgement. At the diner there is the beauty of the simple, comfort of the familiar, wisdom of the old, the melancholy of nostalgia. The opening song by Tsunekichi Suzuki captures the feel of this beautiful series.
